interPoser Ltd: Frequently asked questions

Question: I keep trying to load the Poser Scene file (PZ3|PZZ) and nothing happens! What I am doing wrong?

Answer: interPoser Ltd requires a Wavefront .obj file be exported from Poser containing all of the scene objects to be used in Cinema 4D. This file is the one which must be selected to start the process.

Question: Why is it that sometimes the Poser scene file being loaded does nothing to the materials and fails to load cameras and lights?

Answer: There are two possible reasons for this:

The Poser scene does not contain the same objects as the Wavefront object loaded in the document. Poser also has a bad habit of playing 'musical chairs' with the figure numbers which are critical to correlating imported objects and their materials to those referenced in the Poser scene file. Whenever this happens, it is best to reexport Wavefront OBJ from Poser and then resave the scene (after export).

Question: Why so many materials - how do I edit multiple materials - how do I remove duplicate materials?

Answer: The main reason for this approach instead of combining identical textures over multiple figures is that it allows for MAT application or interactive material editing on an individual basis, either figure by figure or material by material.

That said, you can edit multiple materials in 8.0 and up. Shift-select the materials you want to edit and choose the common channel. Changes to the channel will affect all selected materials to which it is relevant.

In the Materials manager you can select "Function->Remove Duplicate Materials". This will leave you just one copy of each material for you to edit.

Question: I get buttons in the Runtime Explorer "Thumbnails" display, but no images. What causes this?

Answer: This appears to be related to the absence of QuickTime on the related system(s) and Cinema 4D's ability to load certain types of images. In order to avoid this issue, install QuickTime.
Question: The R9 version of interPoser Ltd doesn't work in Cinema 4D R9.0. Why?

Answer: The R9 version of interPoser Ltd doesn't work in Cinema 4D R9.0. It was compiled using Cinema 4D's R9.102 C++ SDK because the R9.012 C++ SDK is a mess. Use the R8 version instead.

Question: Why are converted Poser Infinite lights (Distant lights) shadows clipped in renders?

Answer: Distant and Parallel lights use a light 'cuboid' to restrict the volume of shadow calculations. Any part of an object outside of this volume will not cast shadows. In order to fix this, increase the Parallel Width setting under the light's Shadow settings tab. Suitable values cannot be determined programmatically without some time-consuming processing (and guesswork), so I leave it to the user to make adjustments as the need arises.
